FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in that first session?

You can expect that we will get to know each other better. For those using insurance, this process is more formalized in order to determine eligibility for insurance coverage. For self-pay clients, this session will be much less informal.

How much do your counseling services cost?

My services are priced in a way to make them accessible for most people, while still providing a quality experience. I offer 60-minute sessions for $150. Some clients may qualify for sliding scale rates based on their individual circumstances.

I also provide online counseling sessions, should that be more convenient for you. These sessions are conducted via secure video conferencing and the rate is the same as if you were seeing me in person.

For couples and family counseling, I charge $185 per session.

All clients are provided the opportunity to schedule extended sessions at $75 per 30 minutes.

My goal is to help everyone regardless of their financial situation, so if you would like to discuss further payment options please don’t hesitate to reach out and we can work together to develop an arrangement that works best for you.

How involved do I have to be as a parent?

Being a supportive and involved parent is paramount for the success of any therapy session, but the exact amount of involvement can vary depending on your child's age. With younger children aged 6 and under, I often require extensive parental commitment in the form of educating parents about their child's needs as well as supporting treatment strategies at home.

Moderate involvement is necessary for my pre-teens, where parents should be prepared to reinforce strategies we may explore in session. Lastly, minimal parental engagement is typically required during sessions with teen clients unless agreed upon by the individual.

While every family is different, it’s safe to say that parental involvement is essential – at least part of the time. We can work together to set these goals and adjust them accordingly over time.

Do you accept insurance?

At my practice, I strive to provide the best possible care to my patients and make sure that their needs come first. That is why I accept many forms of insurance, such as most major plans, selected Medicaid plans, and some Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).

I understand that navigating insurance coverage can be confusing and frustrating, and that is why I approach everything about insurance with complete transparency. All insurance-based clients will be required to provide their insurance information when completing their intake packet. This allows me to verify your benefits before our initial session. However, every new client is encouraged to verify their own mental health benefits and coverage as well.

Why would I choose private pay over using my insurance?

When deciding between private pay and using your insurance for therapy, there are several considerations to keep in mind. Private pay offers flexibility, privacy, and a more personalized experience than insurance-based care.

For starters, private pay gives you more control over the therapeutic process. You don’t have to worry about battling insurance companies over coverage issues or navigating referral processes. You can also rest assured that all of your conversations will remain confidential; no third parties or insurance companies will have access to your records.

With private pay, you will also benefit from enhanced individualized attention from your therapist as well as an overall more comprehensive service offering. Private pay sessions may include non-traditional approaches such as walk-talk therapy and phone/text sessions.

Ready to Make a Change?

Making a change can be intimidating, especially when you don't feel like you have any support. Taking the first step isn't easy but I'm here to tell you it is possible – and worth it! Change starts with small decisions. When faced with uncertainty, remember that you are not alone in this. Together, no matter how small the steps may seem, we can turn the tide and create lasting change.
